An ingredient added to the fuel in small amounts during processing, blending or distribution, which enhances a specific aspect of its performance. In order to arrive at a set of properties appropriate to the fuel, it is almost always combined with other ingredients, or additives, which are mixed in during processing and fabrication. Additives need to fulfil requirements of fuel regulation and standards.
